Samedan is really interesting for spotting. Especially when the weather is OK over CH you can see a lot of visitors (often old-timers) together with a few Jet-set visitors to St-Moritz. In winter the airfield is of used for trials for aircraft in icy conditions (last year the had a Rafale for a few days on the apron). During the World Economic Forum at Davos in january the place gets really busy but I don't know if they are as spotter-friendly as during the year when getting acces to the apron for taking photographs is normally not a problem. You can often see the Ecureuil taking underloads of beer and other drinks to the restaurants and cabins in the mountains. They also have an interesting web-cam where you can always see the current visitors on the apron and the current weather (not always as good as on your day):www.engadin-airport.ch.
