Hello Tigerfans!
new layout, more info. This is what's new:
The Squadron
The squadrons history is updated. The fact that the squadron will become multi-role is a significant moment in the Tigers history.
A complete list with all the 31 sqn Commanding Officers has been added together with the F-104 wingtank (with all the names) in the 31 sqns backyard.
Laurent Heyligen provided me of 2 more pictures of 31 sqn airplanes that crashed. In the mishaps you can now find a picture of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV SG-132 and the F84F Thunderstreak FU-127 in burning flames on the runway.
Actual: news
As told above in 2006 all Belgian squadrons will be transformed to Multi-Role. This means former Air Defence squadrons will have to be able to execute round attacks and fighter bombers will have to be able to engage in air ombat. Therefore 2005 will be a transformation year were squadrons will train new things. 31 squadron for example will have to learn Slow Mover Protection.
From the 10th of January until the 4th of February 2 pilots of the 31 squadron (John & Pino) participate the Tactical Leadership Programme (TLP) 2005-1 at Florennes.
From the 17th until the 21st of January 31 squadron had low flight exercises above Elsenborn calles Ringo Range 52/1. During these exercises the ground objectives were in one operation zone within the military practice area of Elzenborn.
From the 31st of January until the 4th of February,31 squadron had low flight exercises above the Province of Luxembourg called Poppy 01. During these exercises the ground objectives were in two operation south of Neufchateau.
On the 1st of February 2 pilots of 31 that were on QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) escorted the Boeing 737-400 of Olympic Airways. This Boeing was bringing the Greeck president to Brussels. The 2 F-16s awaited the Boeing at the border and escorted the President from there to Zaventem Airport.
Pictures: wallpapers
Anthony Noble gave me an old picture: the FA-60 with the old 10 Tac Wing Insignia & Tiger Insignia.
The Wallpaper list has been expanded. In the future there will also be a full list of 31 sqn pilots that were the Belgian Solo Display Pilot, this list will contain name, serial numbers of demo plane and spare plane, year of demo flying and some pictures.
Memorabilia
The patches database has been upgraded and more info is now available. Also in the future the information will keep on growing. The main objective is to place as much patches online as possible (of course only patches the 31sqn used). Gradualy information such as the period in which the patch was in use etc will be added, but this means serious digging into archives. When you visit the patches-section you will notice more patches and more info are already online. To make browsing more easy, I have made a search function available for the Nato Tigermeet patches and other patches. The standard patches and nametags dont have such search function.
The helmets that are connected to the 31 sqn are now divided into the helmets used by 31 sqn and helmets that have another link with the 31 sqn.
Caps, t-shirts and scarfs are now placed under clothing to make the structure more logical.
The official squadron prints and other posters are now placed under Prints.
The scale models are also placed in a database with some extra information (owner, brand, color scheme etc.) and has an advanced search function.
Stickers, pins and other smaller stuff has been gathered in the Others section.
