William Gilson provided some pictures of the Belgian F-16’s at Maple Flag Canada. His website Aerophoto International is now also listed in the spotters-links page.
The 31 Tigers have welcomed a new pilot into the best Belgian squadron: Jonathan "Voske" Reenaers.
Two 31 Tiger squadron pilots had a scramble on the 3rd of October. A civil plane from Koeweit was heading for a British airport but communication between the plane and ground control was lost for some time. A moment after the F-16s took off the alarm was aborted and both (FA-76 and FA-129) burned some fuel before landing.
Once more the Air- and LandComponent had low-level flights above the province Luxemburg. This exercise, named ‘Green Hill III’ took place from Monday the 4th until Friday the 8th of October, 31 sqn participated.
On Friday the 8th of October during a military ceremony the command of the 10th Tactical Wing was transferred from Colonel Gerard Van Caelenberge to Colonel Patrick Wouters. This ceremony was closed with a fly by of twelve F-16's and a solo display. The fly by was under the lead of the 31 Tiger squadron. The solo display was of course performed by the 31 Tiger squadron pilot John Vandebosch.
31 squadron also participated the parade.
The Air- and Land Force of Defense will have low flight exercises above the Provinces of Limburg and Namur from the 11th until the 15th of October. During these exercises the ground objectives are in one operation zone to the southwest of Marche-en-Famenne. The flights at low altitude are a part of the exercise 'Poppy Yellow II', 31 sqn participated.
From the 18th until the 22nd of October the 80th squadron UAV of Elsenborn and the 31 Tiger squadron had a combined exercise named ‘Hunter Claw 04’ in the zone between Bertrix and Neufchâteau. The 80th squadron is a new member of the Aircomponent and will use its UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) to assist the 31st squadrons F-16s in preparing and executing ground attacks. This downsizes the risk of collateral damage during real operations.
The city Peer celebrated his 35th year of godfather of the Kleine Brogel airbase. Around 6 pm on the 22nd of October a couple of KeeBee F-16s performed a flyby over Maaseik for this occasion, the 31 squadron took part in this flyby.
