Hello everybody,
this is the first newsletter of 31tigersqn.be that functions on the systems written by myself.
As some have already noticed, some changes have been made in the news-, media- and mishap-database. From now on you can either chose to view all articles of a certain year, view all articles or search the entire database for keyword(s).
Every year Aeroclub Sanicole organizes a marvelous airshow at Leopoldsburg (Hechtel). This year the program celebrates 60 years of liberation, 25 years F-16 and lots of jetpower. For this airshow Sancicole planned a special Tiger Formation' which means 4 F-16's (FA-68; FA-134; FA-76; FA-86) of the 31 Tiger squadron gave a performance on the 8th of August.
Tiger Commandant John Vandebosch, who flies the Belgian F-16 MLU demo around the world this year, received the Paul Bowen Solo Jet Trophy at the annual RIAT Air Tattoo at Fairford, UK. The trophy is designed in memory of the late co-founder and director of RIAT, Paul Bowen.
Antoine Roels was so kind to provide some nice pictures to ad to the article on the Tactical Air Meet in 1992.
31tigersqn.be also brings the visitors something totaly new: interviews! I had the honor to interview some 31 sqn, ex-31 sqn pilots, 31sqn ground personnel and other people connected to the Tiger squadron. 3 interviews are already online and still some more to be expected.
Antoine also gave a wallpaper to place online.
Further there is a new picture available of the FA-87 (special Tiger-tail) landing at KB in QRA (Quik Reaction Alert) configuration (2 AIM-9 Sidewinders and 2 AIM-120 AMRAAM's).
Also a couple of links were added to the database. Namely the 2 websites of Antoine 'Twan' Roels. To date he accumulate nearly 2.200 flying hours for photo missions in more than sixty different kind of aircraft from vintage and warbirds till high-perfomance jets. On January 1st 2003 after 38 years of service he retired from the Belgian Air Force. After his retirement from the Belgian Air Force, Antoine Roels founded the International Aviation Photography Agency.
Another link is to the website of Dirk Geuns, some might remember his name. He was the person who took the picture of the FA-87 with Tiger-tail and made it possible for me to be the first to place a picture of that aircraft online.
Last change at the website is the 'save the tiger' page. I've added some new links to organisations who try to protect and save the tiger from extinsion.
Finaly I can also say I've placed some new picture-galleries online on my personal website.
NOTE: during this month all new items and changes on the website are visible by the <NEW> and <UPDATED> tags. After the updates are mentioned in the newsletter, these tags are removed.
