Although the operational duties of the RNLN P-3C Orions will come to an end today, RNLNAS Valkenburg will remain being open until March 2006. This will be for P-3C flight training for German Navy crews and for flights related to the Capability Upkeep Programme (CUP) only. Visitors are no longer accepted as of tomorrow. This morning the last VIP flight, Dutch government Fokker 70 PH-KBX, departed from Valkenburg for the very last time with HM Queen Beatrix onboard.
The P-3 squadrons (320 and 321) will be officially disbanded at Valkenburg on Friday 14 January 2005. After this date the Orions are part of "PUMA" (Project Uitfasering MArpat = Project Phase out MARPAT).
The very last time that foreign MPA's could be seen on Valkenburg's flightline will be on Saturday 4 June 2005, when a Farewell Open Day will be organised at the base. It will be a static display Open Day only. Since 4 June 2005 is also the starting date for JMC 05-02 at RAF Kinloss, it might be possible that several intersting MPA's are in the area and take the opportunity to pay a Farewell visit to RNLNAS Valkenburg...
