when driving to Florennes this morning, it looked very bad ; very gray and a rather dens smog  even when we got on the bus to drive us to the TLP ramp, things weren't looking good  but at the moment we got off the bus a mirakel appeared ;D the sun she stayed just long enough to let us shoot some nice static shots, then she went away :? still the weather was good enough to shoot some nice afterburner flames on T.O. here are some of the shots i took today tfp.fotopic.net/c420396_1.htmland members.airliners.be/thumbnails.php?album=68at the end it was a very nice day

some of mine at TO I am really disapointed because I didn t had the good settings in addition, because of the lack of practice during winter, I didn t find my "way of spotting", trying to find the good position, the good movement and so on.... any, it was my first spotterday, so I liked it very much and I hope that I will be able to get in again.... anyway, another thing for fly fort and thomas (and the other ) the 50-500 is not stabilized, isn t it a problem ? because i am very glad of it on my 80-400 thx

There will be always a difference between stabilized and not stabilized. Off course the greatest difference between those 2 is the price. There are some rumours that the Sigma 50-500 will be equiped in the near feature with a stabilizer. Wait until you see the price of ir For the rest, the Bigma you have to turn on your lens to zoom in/out. Some like it some don't, so the choice is still with you. But I'm very happy with my Bigma, so I don't know why to change But BTW nice pics indeed, I don't know what your complaining about your settings. We all learn after each time, so you should be a happy person. BTW Wich camera do you use???

a D70 I think I should have done better pics most of them were under-exposed :/ Smash , it's better to have under-exposed pictures than over-exposed , because the first ones can be edited with a good photo program such as Photoshop,... but over-exposed are lost , you can't get them good and I know it , had this problem in the past And I don't find you're photos are looking bad at all , I like them ;D

@ Smash, i looked closely and several times at you're pics ; they look fine to me for the (lack off) stabilisator on the Bigma : i don't think it is very useful for aerial shooting to have a stabillisator ; a stabillisator is intended for subjects far away who don't move (to mutch) like birds in a tree or something like that, or shooting under dark conditions ( inside ore bad weather ), the stabillisator corrects the movements of the cam/lens, not the subject. so if you do mutch nature or portret photography, you will absolutly need a lens with stabillisator. my friend who has a stabillised Canon 300mm. L lens, told me that the stabillisator don't even work over 1/320 shutterspeed, so with those planes that have the tendens to move around 800 km/h, this leads me to say that IF you do mainly planespotting pictures, it is of (almost) no use to have this feature, as whe ( i anyway) shoot moving planes at about 1/500 sec. at least, only propplanes have to be taken slower to have the props "moving" so for planespotting (this is almost the only thing where i use my cam for), i think you are better to take the Bigma ; 1) it is not as expensive 2) the surcost for the stabillisator is (in my case anyway) trown away money 3) the quality of both lenses ( 100-400 and 50-500 ) are equal ( according to some the Canon is very slightly better,... i dought of it ) 4)and maybe the most important : the Bigma does not only goes farther ; 500 versus 400, but wath i find more important : it begins at 50 mm versus 100 mm for the Canon, this let's you the possibility to shoot planes at a static too, without having to change lenses ; and THAT is very important when you shoot digital ; you know : the more you change lenses, the more you will get DUST, and an airfield in the summer is most off the time a VERY dusty enviroment. but off course, in the end you have to make out for you're self WHERE you gonna use you're lens for, and then choose the best possible that stay's in you're budget

they are not that bad, considdering the dark weather the AF problems are partly "caused" by the 300D ; i have the same lens, so i know it is not the fastesd lens arround, but i can tell you (i had a 300D before), now i have a 20D the AF is maybe not (mutch) faster, but MUTCH precieser. i mean, in stead off going back and forwarths 4/5 times to focus on a 300D, now it does the job in 1, max 2 times on my 20D AND it focusses better but with clear weather, this lens will do the job and anyway : a good pic needs sun
