** This year the 31 Tiger squadron was present at the Koksijde Opendoor again. As in 2003 and 2004, John Vandebosch gave a splendid demo with the F-16. Close to the static F-16s from the 10th tactical Wing, the 31 sqn shop was situated. This year Koksijde base Co (ex-Tiger CO) Rudy Theys also organised a simulated base attack by 2 F-16s. Also this was done by the 31 squadron pilots.
** From the 9th till the 15th of September the Belgian airbase of Florennes was be the home of an international CSAR (Combar Search and Rescue) exercisie, organised by the EAG (European Air Group), called Volcanex 2005. This exercise trained the survival and rescue of pilots. All Academics and participants briefings were conducted during a workshop as part of the Main Planning Conference in Florennes Air Base (Belgium). During the exercise also 31 Tiger squadron participated. Their task was CAS (Close Air Support) and Air Defence.
** On September the 18th Kleine Brogel received a scramble order from CRC Glons. An airliner lost radio communication with the ground. 31 squadron was responsible for the QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) at that moment. Instantly 2 pilots took off, armed with two AIM-9 Sidewinders and two AIM-120 Amraams. FA-99 and FA-100 took off at 10.25 am. 5 minutes after take off the scramble was cancelled. After burning some fuel Alpha-Lima 01 and 02 landed back at KeeBee at 10.40 am.
** From the 19th of September until the 4th of October the 31 Tiger squadron will participate an exercise from the Belgian airbase Beauvechain. Beauvechain will work as the FOB (Forward Operating Base) for the NEO(Non-combattant Evacuation Operation)-part of exercise Active Response and is called Active Trip. Exercise Active Response takes place in the region of Bergen-Hohne (Germany). The Belgian Aircomponent supports the whole Active Trip/Active Lion exercise with the FOB Beauvechain, 4 C-130s from 15th Wing and 6 F-16s from 10th and 2nd Wing. Beauvechain will be used for Active Trip from the 26th until the 28th of September. On the 27th their will be activities from 6 am until 8.30 pm.
