Hi, I am new here. I want to become a spotter. I visit every year an airshow in Belgium. I want to buy a camera but I don't know what kind. I am not a "professional" in this world but i want to spend maximum 2500 € for a camera + equipment. Can somebody give me some advice?
Thanx a lot
Steven

With that budget you'll be pretty much set I think. Personally, with that money, perhaps the Canon 350D would be interesting to look at as a DSLR body, combined with a lens of at least 300mm. Considering you still have to buy memory cards and a spare battery, a Bigma would be a bit too expensive I think, but perhaps it's worth considering? (Bigma is Sigma lens 50-500mm) Now, I'm biased towards Canon, but perhaps a Nikon-fan could jump in and tell me why you should buy the D70? I myself use a Canon 300D (predecessor of the 350D) and just find it very easy to use, comfortable to hold, and delivering good results. With the additional features of the 350D, I think you'll be hard-pressed to find another camera in the same price-range which delivers the same quality + ease of use. Just my opinion.

Thanx Chrisse. It al looks Chinese for me but I will ask the man from the fotoshop for some information. But I only have 120 € for the moment so I still have to work very hard for my camera ;D. So I still have to take some pics with my small Konica Minolta 12x zoom

Welcome on this forum Fightinfalcon !! If you are speaking about 2500 € than that is already a very nice budget. A lot of spotters are doing it with a lot less. Keep one rule in mind: Invest in lenses A good camera is important as well but it is the quality of the glass that makes your picture sharp and gives contrast. Of course a lot can be done in Photoshop (and others) but your pic stands or falls with the lens. If I can give another advise: do not buy your equipment in a normal Belgian photoshop. Go to www.cornevaniperen.nl/ or www.topfoto.de/ or www.foto-konijnenberg.nl/Have a look at their prices and then compare it to the Belgian one.

well, you already got some very good advise ;D me personally, i work with a Canon 20D + a Sigma 50-500 ( the so-called Bigma ) and i'm VERY happy with it. it's a combination that comes around you're €2.500 budget. the choise for Nikon, Canon ore another like Minolta is up to you (they are all very good equipment) just keep in mind that it are the lenses that are the most important to get a good result, so take you're time to read test-results of the lenses you want to buy and if you have to choose between a expensive ( excellent ) lens and a expensive body for budget reasons : go for the lens !! good hunting ;D

I have a 300D + the Bigma ;D , and I'm very happy with this , as told by the other members , it's better to have a good lens than the most expensive camera , the body's life won't last for years...and certainly not if you take some thousands of photos with it as I do

Still a long way to go, Steven, from €120 to €2500. But luckily you have your Konica Minolta I bought my Canon EOS-350D last summer in Italy for a nice price. I'm very happy with it. I allready made some good shots with it, however I'm no professional too. I also bought the batterygrip with it, to have a more stable grip, because the camera is a bit smaller than it's precedessor, the 300D. It works fine with me! Now, I only have to buy a good telelens... and I will be well equipped.
