For two months, I'm working in Switzerland. Not far from here and just across the Italian border, there is a little village where no taxes have to be paid. Prices of cameras are - according to me - very interesting.
But can someone give me some advise... 'bout the equipment and the prices. I'm no specialist nor professional! Thanx in advance.
NIKON D70 + 18-70mm lens = 800 euro NIKON D70S + 18-70mm lens + 512Mb = 1050 euro CANON EOS 300D + 18-55mm lens = 500 euro CANON EOS 350D + 18-55mm lens = 799 euro
Or... am I better of in Belgium?

nikon has les lenses to chose from when you want to buy more lenses. Their sensor is also placed inside a frame, which makes cleaing it with Eclipse and Pecpads more difficult then the Canons. D70S costs too much extra for the extra features compared tot the D70. 350D has more pixels then the 300D and more options if you know something about photography and want to adjust things more manually (lightmetering, mirror lockup etc...). But I think the 350D is too small and too light of weight...

But I think the 350D is too small and too light of weight... i had the 350 in my hands once, and i have to say that i was surprised by the good feeling this "litle" body gives, it is smaler than the others, but it is well ballanced. from the 4 possibility's you give there, i would go for the 350D : 8mp sensor, 100 iso up to 3200, buffer of 20 pics (i think), and 3 frame per second plus full control of all settings. Canon has a ISO that start's at 100, while Nikon begins at 200, further the sensor of Nikon has a 1,5 crop, the Canon has 1,6 ; this gives you a bit mm's more in télé. but offcourse it are both very good cams, it's just a question of personal preference, just keep in mind that once you start with either Canon or Nikon you are stuck with it : the lensfittings are NOT compatibel. the prices you give there are VERY good, i don't think you will find those in Belgium before next year, even in Germany they cost more than that

I'm very much a Canon-person, so my opinion is biased towards them. I've seen good results with the D70, but it doesn't feel right to me. Of course, a lot of this is just feeling the camera, the way it fits your hand. Having small hands myself I was instantly sold on the Canon 300D. The 350D looks very small, but knowing Canon, they probably still got the weight balance right so you probably won't notice how small it is. Also consider whether you want to consider a battery pack at one point o other, that could be a consideration when it comes to the feeling of the camera. Personally, I'm very happy with my 300D, and that price, it's a steal! The 350D is supposed to be even better but like I said, looks very small and toy-ish. Try them if you have an opportunity to get a feel for them
