They say in this topic that the Tamron 28-300 isn't a good lens , I bought one last month and am very satisfied about it , sharpness is ok and my photos are never over-exposed , or they can't use their lens or there's a problem with their lens , and for the price of around 300euro you can't expect the best lens on the world , there are much better lenses but their price is many times higher too , this Tamron is a perfect all round lens , very good for vacation and spotting at places where you have to change each time beween a wide-angle lens and a (tele) zoom lens They are talking about 100-400mm lenses but don't forget a 100mm becomes 160mm on a digital SLR , which isn't always easy to photograph large planes or planes which are close to you

I know, I had the Vivitar 100-400, but as you read, broken. So I'm waiting to hear how much a reparation would cost. Otherwise I have to start looking for a new one, problem is, I don't have a lot of money at the moment... What do you think about the Sigma 70 - 300 mm f4 - 5,6 DL Macro Super?

What do you think about the Sigma 70 - 300 mm f4 - 5,6 DL Macro Super? that's the lens i use, i can say you that for the price it costs you won't find any better ( be shure to have the APO version, with the RED ring ) of-course, it's no super-lens, but with good light conditions you can make superb pics with it. me to, i bought it in a period where the budget did'nd alowed me to by something better and desperatly needed a 300mm lens, hopefully, i will be able to get a Bigma in some 2 months,.. but this little lens has given me some good results for more than a year now. so: if you are in desperate need of a good lens that is budgetfriendly, in wait to be able to get something better ; go for this lens, it's a honnest lens for his price

Too bad your lens is broken but the Sigma isn't the best lens for bad weather conditions , the lower the f-number the better the lens is and sadly also how expensiver the lens is Most lenses , including my Tamron have f-numbers from 4 to 6 what means you have to use a higher iso , lower shutterspeed and larger diafragma (low f-number) to get good photos in bad weathers , inside , ... , you understand what I mean but as you said in your topic on Belgium digital , photography is a hobby for you and then you have to look out for cheaper lenses just as I have to do , you know it's not always the quality of the material what counts but the way you take your photos

Thx for the replies guys! Vonsmalhousen, what's the difference between the DL and the APO? Fabke, indeed I understand the whole stuff about the low F-number with lenses and the consequences if it is pretty high. But I've seen lots of pics with the Vivitar and it has the same F-number as the Sigma, so for me it would be more then enough.

Apochromatic Lens. A high-quality lens that uses special low-dispersion optical glass to greatly reduce chromatic aberration. Chromatic aberration. The purple fringing on the edges when high contrasts.

The purple fringing on the edges when high contrasts. That's true , but I've been reading on other forums that digital SLRS don't have that many problems with aberration because you have a crop factor of 1,6

Ok, just got word from the shop, reparing the lens would cost as much as a new one. d**n. So I ordered the Sigma 70-300 APO Super Macro II AF and will arrive Wednesday (when I'm doing my exam Marketing). January became an expensive month
