Belgian F- 16 from Florennes crashed today (9/9/05) in Northern-Holland.

This is a great loss, not only to the airforce, but speaking as a person that knew him personally, an inconceivable loss to all people around him. My thoughts go to his family and friends in this sad time.

Thanks Flyboytjen, but don't be sorry for me, I was not a close friend of his. We did have the occasional drink together and shared close friends. He was a good person in my experience.

according unconfirmed sources( Gazet van Antwerpen 10/09/05), there should be a bird strike at low altitude...

it's possible this could be the cause, i'm not a "bird" spotter but i think it must be migration time this period of the year : so high risk of flying in to a swarm. yesterday, i heard at Florennes that full-stop landing was mandatory, due to bird-strike warning at level 6 ; no T&G where allowed at that time.
